Panasonic pt-44lcx65 - Sudden Color Distortion

So I've been having trouble with my tv all of the sudden.  Some color discolorations are appearing.  At first I thought this was due to a bad lamp, and it seemed to be true when I got an error two days later on the screen stating the lamp needed to be replaced.  So I went ahead and got a new lamp for it and replaced it, but it didn't fix myu problem at all.  So now it appears to be 2 distinct and unrelated problems.

The discolorations have gotten worse now, and 2 more areas have appeared.  I now have a section on the bottom half that is bluish colored,a  green section more in the middle of the screen and a I've spotted a red discoloration at times towards the right hand of the screen I've seen some red discoloration.  Each of these sections is a circle about 2 inches in diameter and comes and goes based upon the colors that are being displayed.  I'm afraid of what this means for the tv, what do you all think?  Is it beyond hope, is it slowly dying, is it going to crap out next week - what else can I do to fix it?

Either a lens is dirty or the light engine is bad.  You can clean the lens yourself, or pay a few hundred to a technician.  If the light engine is bad, it has to be replaced, and that costs as much as a new tv in many cases.  Are you under warranty at all?

If it is just one color that is bad, I'd try to clean it.  If there are 2 colors going bad, then its most likely the entire light engine/lcd, unless you can recall some freak accident occuring that would have filled the thing with dust.

Even if you do clean it, it's not easy, and may end up worse.

I'd start shopping around for a new TV.  Repairing modern electronics isn't usually worth it, and if your past the warranty you probably got your money's worth already.

Not so much, still got all the discolorations.  My resolution consisted of ditching the POS and getting something new :)  So about a week ago I picked up a 52" Sharp Aquos that has been great.  Brighter, better picture, and it does 1080p rather than 1080i like my older one.

Anyone know anything about the Aquos line?  Bad idea, or soemthing good?  From what I've read and seen they're great, but I'd be curious to hear of other experiences.

I am having problems now with the same thing. I have a panasonic TV similar model to yours.  I have the PT-61LCX65. It is a 61 inch tv projection. We paid as almost 3500.  We bought oc 2005. Two months ago the light indicator went out. We called Panasonic and she said it is normal to go after 10,000 hours. Well, that means I would have to use it 20 hrs a day. It is not normal.  Now I have the film like black corlering on bottom left side of TV, IT is spreading.  I called Panasonic and they gave me a number to call in my area. I talked to this guy. He said it could be two things. First, It could be the color is going and has to be replace of all three. The cost of that would be $350 each and not including labor. The other thing it could be is the another lamp that is going and that cost would be $1000.  My brother has a sony and never had a problem with his TV.  I am warning people NOT TO BUY PANASONIC. I dont have insurance. Who would think this thing would break down after 2 1/2 yrs.

If you've had it 2.5 years, you would only have to use it for 10 hours a day to meet 10,000 hours.  Any events such as power outages/brownouts without a surge protector could easily cut that 10,000 in half.

Honestly, 2.5 years on that type of set is a pretty good lifespan without maintenence.

That being said, I wouldn't buy panasonic either.
